Before You Travel...

Vacation_Car_Beach_Trip_Clipart-300x221Driving to your weekend or vacation destinations can sometimes become a stressful situation. Add to that the worry of whether or not your vehicle will make it is no way to start a relaxing trip. Taking care of some maintenance issues before the summer starts will help ease your mind as you get your car on the road. Here are some car care and travel tips to make the process easier:
  1. Check all fluid levels and their condition -- engine oil, transmission fluid, radiator fluid, power steering fluid, brake fluid and windshield washer fluid.
  2. If you are nearing your next scheduled oil and filter change service, visit us in advance of your leaving.
  3. Make sure your tires are inflated properly, have enough tire tread and are in good condition. Also, check your spare tire.
  4. Remember that visibility is important so check all the lights on your vehicle. Make sure your head lights, brake lights and directional signals are working properly.
  5. On the topic of visibility, if they haven’t been changed since the previous fall, it’s probably a good idea to replace your windshield wipers.
  6. If your air conditioning is not cooling off your car, bring it to Trojan Auto Care for servicing. Nothing is worse than getting stuck in summer traffic when the air conditioner isn't working and the temperatures (and possibly tempers) are flaring.
  7. For added peace of mind, bring your vehicle to us for a pre-trip inspection. We'll check all the major components and alert you to any potential problems so you can have them fixed BEFORE you go.
  8. Even with the best of preventive maintenance, problems can sometimes occur. Be prepared and keep an Emergency Road Kit in your vehicle. At a minimum, include jumper cables, flares, a first-aid kit, flashlight, extra fuses, and anything else that would be helpful if you broke down.
  9. Pack as lightly as you can to avoid adding unnecessary load on your tires. This will also help you save on gas mileage.
  10. Finally, buckle up and have fun!
